Although it is a little hard to pin this particular charge on them, since Rock and Roll can basically be defined as an uncredited appropriation of black music. It is curious that I am a lot more critical of the earlier generations of this kind of appropriation, Presley, Clapton, etc., than the White Stripes. Hipness associated exclusively with whiteness. The black music they appropriate being 50 years old at least, anything more recent and black is completely excluded from their sound.
